Vol. 19: Delivery Service Edition
As announced in the Favorite email newsletter, from March 19th to April 5th, a special exhibition titled "Dinosaur Figure Extravaganza" was held at the Tokai University Museum of Natural History, located next to Miho no Matsubara, Shizuoka Prefecture, famous for its legend of Hagoromo. This exhibition, which could be called a "Dinosaur Treasure Exhibition," was primarily based on my collection. Apart from a few dioramas from the Favorite Collection and about 30 Choco Sauruses provided by Kaiyodo, all the dinosaurs that occupied the venue were from my home. This time, I will report on that exhibition.
The Tokai University Museum of Natural History has exhibits of fossils from the Paleozoic to Mesozoic eras on the 3rd floor, and from the Cenozoic era on the 2nd floor. For more details, please visit their website (http://www.sizen.muse-tokai.jp/). Among them, I found the Talbosaurus in a forward-leaning posture, similar to the one at the former National Museum of Nature and Science, and the mammoth skeleton struggling to stand up in a dying state, to be particularly impressive exhibits.
The figure exhibition venue was a room of about 10x5m in the back of the first floor. Along the walls, glass cases displayed figures categorized as "valuable old figures," "plastic models," "garage kits," "museum brand items," "Jurassic Park items," and "shokugan (candy toys)." Most of these were items you may have seen at the "Secret Treasure Museum," but arranged neatly with captions, the familiar dinosaurs that usually crowded my shelves at home looked like something entirely different and grand, filling me with emotion. The museum's website will soon be updated with detailed exhibition content, so please take a look.
I gave a gallery talk at the venue on March 26th. Here are some photos from that time.
Near the entrance of the venue. The items in the central case are Kaiyodo soft vinyl kits that I assembled. They used to be covered in dust at home, but displayed like this, they look surprisingly magnificent.
This time, fearing damage, I mainly brought items that were robust. However, for this corner, I dared to display resin kits due to the necessity of showcasing garage kits. I received comments from familiar原型製作者 (original modelers) such as Mr. Araki, Hirokazu Tokugawa of "Endorphin," and Nobuyoshi Takeuchi of "SHINZEN Modeling Laboratory," and Taku Makino of "Alucard," and displayed the kits I produced. Thank you all very much. I can only pray that they return safely. Incidentally, the Triceratops in the upper left is Kaiyodo's first dinosaur kit (1985) prototyped by Mr. Araki.
Although it was called a gallery talk, I just showed off the figures to the children and ended up boasting, which seemed to have left everyone dumbfounded...
