Great Dinosaur Exhibition: The Newly Discovered Pachycephalosaurid Sferocefale

Newly Discovered Pachycephalosaurid
Zavacephale
In 2019, a fossil of a new genus and species, the oldest of its kind in the world, was discovered in an ancient stratum in the Gobi Desert of Mongolia. This Pachycephalosaurid is known as the "head-butting dinosaur." This rare fossil preserves the entire skeleton of a creature that lived at least 14 million years earlier than similar species. To announce this new fossil, a grand dinosaur exhibition is being planned at the Prefectural Museum, featuring the world's first public display of the actual fossil, a life-size restoration model, and replicas of large dinosaur skeletons such as Tyrannosaurus.
This year marks the 40th anniversary of the opening of the Fukushima Prefectural Museum and the 40th anniversary since the first dinosaur fossil was discovered in this prefecture in 1986 (Showa 61). This special commemorative exhibition is sure to be enjoyed by dinosaur fans and people of all ages!
