Collectible Dinosaur Figure Made of Soft Material
A PVC figure of Diplodocus, a large herbivorous dinosaur that lived in North America during the Late Jurassic. Its collectible size makes it enjoyable both for play and display.
Diplodocus
Classification: Saurischia / Sauropodomorpha / Diplodocidae
Size: Total length25〜30meters
Period: Late Jurassic
A large herbivorous dinosaur that lived in North America during the Late Jurassic. Compared with other sauropods, it had shorter forelimbs and held its neck and head closer to the ground. It may have fed not only on tall vegetation but also on low-growing plants, filtering them through comb-like teeth at the front of its mouth. Its tail made up more than half its body length and contained as many as 80 vertebrae; it may have swung the tail like a whip to defend itself from carnivorous dinosaurs.
Interview with Supervisor Kazunari Araki
- Diplodocus, known for its long, whip-like tail, has joined the Soft Model series. Mr. Araki, what are your impressions of Diplodocus?
- Diplodocus is the second sauropod in the new Soft Model series after Brachiosaurus. I love sauropods, so I am delighted to see it in the lineup. For my generation, Diplodocus, Brachiosaurus, and Apatosaurus (Brontosaurus) were the three iconic sauropods.
- What aspects of sculpting Diplodocus were challenging, and are there any details you would especially like people to notice?
- If Apatosaurus represents the standard sauropod body plan, Brachiosaurus is the tall one and Diplodocus the long one. The length of the figure was probably the main challenge in developing it, but I think it successfully captures key features such as the long neck and tail.
- What image inspired the pose?
- I created a pose suggesting a slow, relaxed walk. Diplodocus’s long, whip-like tail is its most distinctive feature, so I sculpted it curving upward.
- The Diplodocus Soft Model uses light gray as its base color, giving it a different feel from Brachiosaurus. What image or concept inspired this choice, and were there any references you used?
- Because Diplodocus was a large animal, I chose gray, like the subdued colors of elephants and rhinos. To keep it from looking too plain, I added dark blue markings.
- Finally,Diplodocus About the Soft ModelPlease share your comments.。
- Sauropods such as Diplodocus are quintessential dinosaurs. We hope you will support the series as more species, such as Apatosaurus, Amargasaurus, and Saltasaurus, join the collection.
