Tyrannosaurus
Classification: Saurischia/Theropoda/Tyrannosauridae
Size: Total length 12–14 meters
Period: Late Cretaceous
One of the most popular dinosaurs and one of the largest terrestrial carnivores ever known. Its lower jaw was enormous compared with those of other theropods, giving it an exceptionally powerful bite. Its teeth had distinctive serrations suited to tearing flesh from prey. Although its forelimbs were reduced to just two fingers and appeared small, they were powerful enough to help restrain prey.
Interview with Supervisor Hirokazu Tokugawa
- The Tyrannosaurus, released as the first model in the series, has now been scaled up and introduced as a Premium Edition. To begin, could you share your overall impression of the finished Premium Edition?
- At this size, it is interesting that the plush still has a sense of weight. Tyrannosaurus was a large carnivorous dinosaur, so a weighty appearance suits it well.
- The Premium Edition is larger than the regular model, so it has more impact and presence. From your perspective as the design supervisor, what differences or newly emphasized features stand out compared with the regular Tyrannosaurus?
- A larger size places fewer constraints on plush design, so we considered whether to move toward more realistic proportions than were possible in the regular model. In discussions with the Favorite team, we agreed that the regular model already expressed the qualities Favorite wanted in a plush toy. Rather than changing the concept significantly, we decided to adapt the regular design to the larger size, refining details such as the mouth and neck while preserving its character.
- Finally, do you have a message for people who will pick up this Premium Edition?
- With the regular model, people may keep it nearby and play with it; with the Mini Mascot, they can attach it to a bag and take it out. What new ways to enjoy a larger Premium Edition might emerge? One of the charms of plush toys is that, despite their size, they are durable and easy to handle. I hope everyone finds their own way to enjoy it.
