Feathered TyrannosaurusFeathered T. rex

Classification: Saurischia / Theropoda / Tyrannosauridae
Size: Total length12〜14 m
Period: Late Cretaceous

One of the most popular dinosaurs and one of the largest terrestrial carnivores in history. Recent discoveries of new tyrannosaurid species with evidence of feathers have led to the theory that Tyrannosaurus may also have had feathers. However, because covering its entire body with feathers would have caused it to overheat and scale-like fossils have also been found, it is thought that feathers may have covered only parts of the body.

Interview with Supervisor Kazunari Araki

In recent years, new discoveries and theories about dinosaur feathers have gained attention. What image do you have of a feathered Tyrannosaurus?
I do not yet have a definite image myself. However, I do not think a large animal like Tyrannosaurus living in a non-cold environment would have been covered entirely in feathers, so I created it with the image of feathers remaining only along the back.
What was the style and sculpting concept for the Feathered Tyrannosaurus Vinyl Model?
Even so, a small amount of feathers would not have enough impact, so I added a parrot-like crest of feathers to give it a stronger presence. My concept is that it had feathers all over its body when young, which were gradually lost as it matured, leaving feathers only on the back.
The colorful feathers are a striking accent. What inspired this choice?
Just as modern birds can have colorful plumage, I imagine feathered dinosaurs also had vivid patterns and colors. Since Tyrannosaurus was a large animal, I chose a colorful palette without making it too flashy.
Do you have any final comments about this model?
Children are the ones who buy Vinyl Models, and they are often the ones who know the latest dinosaur discoveries. I hope everyone who has wondered why there was no Feathered Tyrannosaurus Vinyl Model will pick one up!
