Size: Body length approx. 6 meters
Habitat: South Asia and Southeast Asia
It mainly lives near water, such as rivers and ponds in forests, forming groups of around 3–15 females and young, led by an experienced female. Males leave the group at around 10 years of age and may join groups of males, although some live alone.
Its diet consists mainly of grass, but it also eats trees, bark, leaves, roots, and fruit. It avoids feeding during the hottest part of the day and mainly feeds in the morning, evening, and at night. It spends 14–16 hours a day feeding and can consume 100–200 kg of food.
Asian Elephants are thought to live for 50–80 years, although some elephants are reported to have lived close to 100 years.
