One of Favorite's Largest Playable Figures Made of Soft Material
A Premium Feathered Tyrannosaurus figure over 50 cm long, newly added to the Vinyl Model series. Made from safe materials that are gentle for small children to touch, it can be played with safely in the living room or children’s room.
* Some parts are made slightly harder to allow the figure to stand on its own and to reproduce fine details.
Tyrannosaurus
Classification: Saurischia/Theropoda/Tyrannosauridae
Size: Total length 12–14 meters
Period: Late Cretaceous
One of the most popular dinosaurs and one of the largest terrestrial carnivores ever known. The discovery in recent years of new tyrannosaurid species with evidence of feathers has led to the idea that Tyrannosaurus may also have had feathers. However, covering the entire body with feathers could have caused overheating, and scale-like fossil impressions have also been found, so feathers are thought to have covered only parts of the body.
Interview with Supervisor Kazunari Araki
- Feathered Tyrannosaurus has joined Favorite’s Premium Edition series of some of the company’s largest figures. What was the concept behind the master sculpt?
- I was surprised by the size and impact when I first saw the sample. (Laughs.) Many of the people who buy Vinyl Models are young children and their families, but that does not mean the figures should look toy-like. I aim for a naturalistic sculpting style similar to the Soft Models.
- Besides the feathers, how does this differ from the Tyrannosaurus already in the Premium Edition lineup?
- The biggest differences are the posture and pose. Vinyl Models are generally designed to stand without a base, so they tend to have similar poses with the tail touching the ground. This time, I chose a dynamic pose with the neck arched backward.
- Were there any particular points you paid attention to when creating such a large Feathered Tyrannosaurus?
- Feathers have not actually been found on Tyrannosaurus. It is thought to have had simple filamentous feathers rather than feather-like plumage, but I deliberately depicted larger, feather-like plumage overlapping from the head down the neck, prioritizing a striking appearance.
- The coloring has a bright, yellow-based impression. Did you reference any living animals?
- I did not reference any particular living animal. I chose a bright, animal-like palette that would make the feathers stand out while contrasting with the dark-red Tyrannosaurus.
- Finally, do you have any comments on the Feathered Tyrannosaurus Vinyl Model Premium Edition?
- As a big-scale model of the king of dinosaurs, Tyrannosaurus, it has an outstanding presence among the Vinyl Models. It is even big enough to surprise your pets, so make it a member of your family!
