Dinosaur Plushie That's Not Just "Cute"
This Triceratops plushie features a cute, deformed shape while retaining key characteristics like the three horns on its head and its frill. A "cute dinosaur" that can be enjoyed by children and adults alike is now available.
TriceratopsTriceratops
Classification: Ornithischia / Ceratopsia / Ceratopsidae
Size: 7-9 meters in length
Period: Late Cretaceous
One of the largest ceratopsian dinosaurs that lived in the Late Cretaceous period of the Mesozoic Era, enjoying high recognition alongside Tyrannosaurus. Characterized by the three long horns on its nose and above its eyes, which also give it its name. There are various theories regarding the function of these three horns and the frill extending from the back of its head to its neck, including intimidation or defense mechanisms against predators, and use in territorial disputes or courtship among its own species.
Interview with Supervisor Hirokazu Tokugawa
- Plushies possess a unique world of their own, characterized by their deformed designs, and their charm and soft texture appeal to a wide range of generations, from small children to adults. This time, Favorite is adding a new series of plushies called "Stuffed Models" to its lineup. What is your impression of plushies, Mr. Tokugawa?
- I've always been interested in "how to design dinosaurs and animals to suit plushie materials and sizes," and it's always been a pleasure to look at plushie products in museum shops when visiting overseas museums, as well as domestic products. Through this, I've developed various ideas of "how I would do it." This Stuffed Model project became a long-cherished opportunity to test the image of dinosaur plushies that I had nurtured for many years.
- While focusing on the theme of "cute dinosaurs," models that combine individuality and cuteness have been created by capturing the original characteristics of dinosaurs. Mr. Tokugawa was extensively involved in the overall supervision, from creating the base illustrations to depicting the dinosaur's features. Could you tell us about the points you wanted to express and the highlights of the Triceratops?
- Triceratops was an easy dinosaur to turn into a plushie due to its clear characteristics like horns and frills, and its not-too-slender limbs and tail. Since the Tyrannosaurus design was already underway, I aimed for an atmosphere that would not feel out of place when placed alongside the Tyrannosaurus.
- Regarding the dinosaur's color, the overall calm color scheme blends well into everyday spaces. Could you tell us about any specific images or motifs you had in mind for the Triceratops' color?
- Since the Tyrannosaurus's color had already been decided, I chose a calm green as a contrasting color to place alongside the Tyrannosaurus.
- Finally, please share your overall impressions of this Stuffed Model and a message for those who will pick it up.
- My impression of making this Stuffed Model was, "It was tough, but fun!" Unlike creating restoration models, plushies have significant restrictions on size, fabric, and materials, making it difficult to achieve the desired shape. Expressing the dinosaur's essence and cuteness within these constraints was challenging, but it was also a very enjoyable process of rediscovering the dinosaur's charm. I believe the resulting Stuffed Model is a unique Favorite item that embodies both the "coolness and cuteness of dinosaurs" in a simple plushie design. I hope everyone will enjoy discovering new charms of dinosaurs through this Stuffed Model.
