A dinosaur plush toy that's not just "cute"
This Allosaurus plush toy is cutely deformed, yet tightly packed with features such as cranial bumps and a slender silhouette. It can stand on two legs, expanding the ways you can play with and display it.
AllosaurusAllosaurus
Classification: Saurischia / Theropoda / Allosauridae
Size: 9-14 meters in length
Period: Late Jurassic
One of the largest carnivorous dinosaurs of the Jurassic period. In North America alone, fossils of at least 60 individuals, from juveniles to adults, have been discovered. Its distinguishing features include bumpy projections above its eyes, a large head over 1 meter long, stout and powerful hind legs, and well-developed forelegs. It maintained balance with its large head and a long, straight, heavy tail.
Interview with Supervisor Hirokazu Tokugawa
- Five new dinosaur and ancient creature species have joined Favorite's "Stuffed Model" plush toy series. First, please tell us your impression of the completed new collection as a whole.
- Each of these five species also had different characteristics that we wanted to express as plush toys, so the design process presented a different kind of difficulty compared to the first five species. Additionally, this time two ancient creatures other than dinosaurs, Mosasaurus and Pteranodon, have been added. Therefore, when all 10 species from both the first and second series are lined up, I believe the overall design range of the models has expanded, allowing us to express the "Favorite" identity even more.
- Mr. Tokugawa, as before, we asked you to broadly supervise everything from the creation of base illustrations to the expression of the characteristics of dinosaurs and ancient creatures. Could you please share the "particular points of focus" and "highlights" for each dinosaur?
- The head's projection is indeed a prominent feature, so we expressed that clearly. Also, compared to the first Tyrannosaurus, we expressed differences in proportion, such as a smaller head and a more slender overall body.
- Regarding the coloring, similar to the previous work, it is kept in calm color schemes that blend naturally into everyday spaces. If there were any conscious images or motifs when considering the colors of each dinosaur, please tell us.
- We decided on the base color by referencing Favorite's Allosaurus vinyl model. I wanted the head's projections to be red, so I think the color scheme is good in terms of contrast with that part.
- Finally, please give a message to those who will pick up these Stuffed Models.
- I thought the second series would be smoother with the experience from the first product development, but it was unexpectedly challenging. I reaffirmed the wide variety of forms of dinosaurs and ancient creatures and the difficulty of designing them as plush toys. Nevertheless, it was just as enjoyable a process this time as it was before. I would be very happy if you find your favorite among these five species.
