GiganotosaurusGiganotosaurus
Classification: Saurischia/Theropoda/Carcharodontosauridae
Size: 12-14 meters in length
Period: Late Cretaceous
Giganotosaurus was a large carnivorous dinosaur that lived in South America during the Late Cretaceous period. It is a relatively new dinosaur, with the first fossils discovered in 1993. Its skull alone was 1.8 meters long, making it larger than Tyrannosaurus, but its overall shape was slender, and its jaw power is thought not to have been strong enough to crush bones. The discovery of multiple individual fossils grouped together suggests that they hunted in packs, and large sauropods like Argentinosaurus may have been among their prey. Carcharodontosaurus, which lived in northern Africa, was a closely related species, and this is considered evidence that the two continents were once connected.
Interview with Supervisor Hirokazu Tokugawa
- Five new types of dinosaurs and prehistoric creatures have been added to Favorite's stuffed toy series "Stuffed Models." First, please tell us your impression of the finished new collection as a whole.
- Each of these five new types presented different challenges in terms of expressing their features as stuffed toys, compared to the first five types. Also, this time two prehistoric creatures other than dinosaurs, Mosasaurus and Pteranodon, were included. As a result, when all ten types (including the first five) are displayed together, I believe the range of designs as a whole has broadened, allowing us to express the "Favorite" unique style even more.
- Mr. Tokugawa, as before, you oversaw a wide range of tasks, from the creation of the base illustrations to the expression of dinosaur and prehistoric creature characteristics. Could you tell us about the "specific points you focused on" and "highlights" for each dinosaur?
- Without prominent features like horns or fins, it was unexpectedly difficult to express the "Giganotosaurus-ness" in a stuffed toy. We refined it through repeated adjustments to the size and shape of its head.
- Regarding the coloring, similar to the previous work, it features calming colors that blend naturally into everyday spaces. When considering the colors for each dinosaur, could you tell us about any images or motifs you were conscious of?
- As I mentioned in Q2, it was difficult to convey "Giganotosaurus-ness" with a simple design, so I wanted to express the substantial weight of a large carnivorous dinosaur through color. Therefore, I chose calmer colors compared to other Stuffed Models.
- Finally, please give a message to those who will pick up this Stuffed Model.
- I thought the second series would proceed smoothly given the experience from the first product development, but it was unexpectedly challenging. I was once again reminded of the wide variety of dinosaur and prehistoric creature forms and the difficulty of designing them as stuffed toys. Nevertheless, this time it was also an enjoyable process, just like the last. I would be very happy if you find your favorite among these five new types.

About Stuffed Models
Popular dinosaurs and prehistoric creatures have been transformed into stuffed toys with "cuteness" as the theme.
