Classification: Saurischia/Theropoda/Dilophosauridae
Size: Total length6~7meters
Period: Early Jurassic
A primitive carnivorous dinosaur with two distinctive crests on its head. It was once thought to have weak jaws and to have scavenged carcasses. However, a 2020 re-examination of its skeleton suggested it had stronger, larger jaws and that the crests may have housed air sacs supporting the rapid movements needed for activity. Despite its large body, it may have been a fast and agile apex predator, using powerful forelimbs and long hind limbs.
Interview with Supervisor Kazunari Araki
- Dilophosaurus, which also appeared in this summer’s film, has joined the Soft Model series. What are your impressions of Dilophosaurus?
- Dilophosaurus
The distinctive movie depiction—with an expandable frill and venom-spitting—left a strong impression, regardless of its scientific accuracy. For better or worse, the first image many people have of Dilophosaurus is the one from Jurassic Park. - Dilophosaurus
- Dilophosaurus
For this model, I represented primitive feathers on the back and forearms. - What kind of image did you have in mind when sculpting the poses and bases?
- The Dilophosaurus in Jurassic Park captures the sleek form of the real dinosaur fairly well, apart from the frill. I also emphasized its streamlined body, long limbs, and tail to suggest speed and agility.
- Dilophosaurus
- As always, I considered the other models in the Soft Model lineup and chose colors and patterns that would not overlap too much. I made the crest bright orange because it may have been used for intimidation or display.
- Finally,Dilophosaurus About the Soft ModelPlease share your comments.。
- The raptor family is famous among small carnivorous dinosaurs, but Dilophosaurus has its own distinctive and cool appearance. It has finally joined the Soft Model series! Let it attack large herbivorous dinosaurs or stage battles between its own kind—add it to your collection and enjoy.
