African Penguin
Classification: Sphenisciformes/Spheniscidae/
Size: Body lengthapproximately 70centimeters
Habitat: Coastal waters of South Africa
The Cape Penguin is a medium-sized penguin, about 70 cm long, and the only penguin species native to temperate Africa. Its name comes from the Cape region of South Africa. It is also known as the jackass penguin or black-footed penguin, and the name African penguin is increasingly used. Humboldt and related penguins look similar; the Cape Penguin can be distinguished by its narrow single black chest band and the broad white facial band and pink bare skin around the eyes. The pink area is exposed skin rather than feathers. Its beak is black with gray markings.
