One of the largest carnivorous dinosaurs of the Jurassic. In North America alone, fossils representing at least 60 individuals have been discovered, ranging from juveniles to adults. Interview with Supervisor Kazunari Araki
- Allosaurus has joined the Dinosaur Vinyl Model lineup. What was the concept behind the sculpting and coloring?
- I think Allosaurus has the ideal proportions for a large carnivorous dinosaur. Its hands are not as small as Tyrannosaurus, its head is neither too large nor too small, and it has long legs and a long tail. To me, Allosaurus has always had an ingrained image of purple with blue stripes, so I used that color scheme again this time.
- Allosaurus is one of the largest carnivorous dinosaurs of the Jurassic. Do you have any particular impressions or memories associated with it?
- Allosaurus is one of my favorite dinosaurs, and I strongly requested the opportunity to create it. The first dinosaur skeleton I saw as a child was an Allosaurus, and the young, fierce Allosaurus in the film One Million Years B.C. was also the starting point for my dinosaur models. It ends up being killed by a stake through the belly, though. (Laughs)
- You also worked on the Allosaurus Dinosaur Soft Model. What did you pay particular attention to when creating the Allosaurus Vinyl Model?
- The Soft Model allowed me to reproduce Allosaurus’ ideal proportions, but the legs and other parts of the Vinyl Model inevitably have to be thicker due to the nature of the product. Even so, I paid close attention to capturing the characteristic fierce face, especially the large ridges above the eyes.
- Finally, please tell us about the highlights of this model and share your comments.
- Large Brachiosaurus and Stegosaurus Vinyl Models are already available, so add Allosaurus and recreate a battle between the largest and strongest dinosaurs of the Jurassic! A Tyrannosaurus vs. Allosaurus matchup would also be a great way to decide which dinosaur was the strongest of the Cretaceous and Jurassic!
