Playable Figure Made of Soft, Durable Material
A Vinyl Model of Dilophosaurus, which lived in North America and China during the Early Jurassic. It is distinguished by two crests on its head, and this model reflects features revealed by recent research. Made from child-friendly materials, it can be enjoyed safely in the living room or a child’s room.
DilophosaurusDilophosaurus
Classification: Saurischia/Theropoda/Dilophosauridae
Size: Total length6~7meters
Period: Early Jurassic
A primitive carnivorous dinosaur with two distinctive crests on its head. It was once thought to have weak jaws and to have scavenged carcasses. However, a 2020 re-examination of its skeleton suggested it had stronger, larger jaws and that the crests may have housed air sacs supporting the rapid movements needed for activity. Despite its large body, it may have been a fast and agile apex predator, using powerful forelimbs and long hind limbs.
Interview with Supervisor Kazunari Araki
- Dilophosaurus, recognized from Jurassic Park and Jurassic World, has joined the Vinyl Model series. Mr. Araki, what are your impressions of Dilophosaurus?
- Dilophosaurus
In Jurassic Park, Dilophosaurus was given fictional features such as an expandable frill like that of a frilled lizard and the ability to spit venom. Although these details are not scientifically supported, large crested carnivorous dinosaurs like Dilophosaurus were unusual and may have had a different lifestyle from other predators. - Dilophosaurus
- Many birds have fleshy crests or large, colorful beaks that serve as displays to communicate attraction, aggression, or other signals to mates, rivals, and other animals.
Dilophosaurus’s crest may likewise have been brightly colored or even changed color, reflecting a more bird-like lifestyle than that of other carnivorous dinosaurs. I gave this Vinyl Model a conspicuous bright red crest. - Dilophosaurus
- As usual, I chose a paint scheme that would not overlap too much with other products in the lineup.
The body has green camouflage patterns that would blend into a forest, while the crest is a contrasting bright red.
Imagine the crest changing color: subdued during hunting, becoming redder when angry, or turning pink when courting a mate. This can make the Dilophosaurus feel almost alive. - Finally, Dilophosaurus About the Vinyl ModelPlease share your comments.。
- Compared with large Jurassic carnivores such as Allosaurus and Ceratosaurus, Dilophosaurus looks more slender and delicate, but it may have been an intelligent dinosaur like modern birds. When playing, try inventing a special “crest attack” as its finishing move!
