Pteranodon
Classification: Pterosauria / Pterodactyloidea / Pteranodontidae
Size: Wingspan: 7 m
Period: Late Cretaceous
Pteranodon is one of the best-known pterosaurs and was also the first pterosaur discovered in North America. Its most distinctive feature is the long, crest-like extension at the rear of its skull, which could reach 1.8 m in length. Two forms, Longiceps and Sternbergi, have been recognized based on crest shape. It is thought to have flown by soaring on rising air currents like a glider.
Interview with Supervisor Kazunari Araki
- What image do you have of Pteranodon?
- I picture it as the ruler of the Cretaceous skies. It would have glided leisurely like a glider, catching fish that came near the surface of the sea.
- What did you focus on when creating this model?
- I created it in a gliding pose. I paid particular attention to the colors and developed a color scheme and pattern that had not been used on previous Pteranodon figures.
- Please give us your final comments on this model.
- Pteranodon is an indispensable extinct reptile of the age of dinosaurs. Add an aerial attack to the battles taking place on the ground!
