Quetzalcoatlus
Classification: Pterosauria / Pterodactyloidea / Azhdarchidae
Size: Total length10〜11meters
Period: Late Cretaceous
Quetzalcoatlus was one of the largest pterosaurs known and lived during the Late Cretaceous. Its bones were hollow to reduce weight, and although it stood about as tall as a modern giraffe, it is thought to have weighed much less. Footprints suggest it walked on all fours and launched into flight from a quadrupedal stance, pushing off powerfully with its long forelimbs in a motion similar to a pole vaulter.
Interview with Supervisor Kazunari Araki
- Quetzalcoatlus, one of the largest known pterosaurs, has joined the Vinyl Model series. Mr. Araki, what are your impressions of Quetzalcoatlus?
- Quetzalcoatlus was larger than a small airplane. It is astonishing to think that an animal of this size could fly, and I find myself wondering how it took to the air.
- You sculpted the Quetzalcoatlus model. What story or ideas informed the sculpture, and what were the main challenges, highlights, or details you would like people to notice?
- With its long beak, colorful crest, long neck, and enormous wings, Quetzalcoatlus is a pterosaur full of interesting features. Although recent reconstructions sometimes show it on the ground, I imagined it soaring through the sky with its wings fully spread.
- The Quetzalcoatlus Vinyl Model uses gray as its base color, creating a subdued look. What inspired this choice?
- Quetzalcoatlus is named after Quetzalcoatl, the feathered serpent deity of Mesoamerican culture. I chose a subdued color scheme inspired by the image of this dragon-like god.
- Finally,Quetzalcoatlus About the Vinyl ModelPlease share your comments.。
- Pterosaurs such as Pteranodon are as popular as Tyrannosaurus. They are the only animals that could attack carnivorous dinosaurs from the air, so have fun making them swoop down and attack!
