Pteranodon
Classification: Pterosauria / Pterodactyloidea / Pteranodontidae
Size: Wingspan: 7 m
Period: Late Cretaceous
Pteranodon is one of the best-known pterosaurs and was also the first pterosaur discovered in North America. Its most distinctive feature is the long, crest-like extension at the rear of its skull, which could reach 1.8 m in length. Two forms, Longiceps and Sternbergi, have been recognized based on crest shape. It is thought to have flown by soaring on rising air currents like a glider.
Interview with Supervisor Kazunari Araki
- This Pteranodon is a Premium Edition Vinyl Model and one of the largest figures in the Favorite lineup. What impression did this big Pteranodon figure make on you?
- I was amazed by how large and impressive the model is. It will seem even bigger to small children, so I think it may change their idea of what a toy Pteranodon can be.
- Compared with the regular-size Vinyl Model (FD-307), what differences or features stand out to you?
- The crest has brighter colors and a more striking pattern than the regular version, while the overall color scheme is subdued to match the other Premium Editions, giving it a stronger appearance. I think it could be the boss of the regular lineup.
- What inspired the coloring, and what points are important when representing a pterosaur?
- I used a color scheme different from the other Premium Models and added a pattern inspired by waves. Since Pteranodon was a large animal, I envisioned it leisurely gliding over the sea rather than flapping its wings.
- Finally, please tell us about the highlights of this figure and share your comments.
- Pteranodon may seem like a supporting character among the dinosaurs, but this big Pteranodon is a star worthy of standing alongside Tyrannosaurus! Please add it to the dinosaur lineup in your home!
