One of Favorite's Largest Playable Figures Made of Soft Material

Period: Late Cretaceous
One of the largest members of the Mosasauridae, it was a marine reptile characterized by a crocodile-like head, a streamlined barrel-shaped body, and limbs evolved into flippers.
Its head had a double-jointed jaw that allowed it to open its mouth very wide, and it is thought to have swallowed captured prey whole. Recent research on the close relative Platecarpus has also suggested that it may have had a shark-like crescent-shaped tail fin.
Interview with Supervisor Kazunari Araki
- Mosasaurus, a giant predatory marine reptile with a crocodile-like head and flipper-like limbs, has joined the Vinyl Model Premium Edition. Mr. Araki, what are your impressions of Mosasaurus?
- Mosasaurus was one of the dominant marine reptiles of the Mesozoic, alongside animals such as Elasmosaurus and Ichthyosaurus. Thanks to the Jurassic World films, it seems to have become much more widely recognized in recent years.
- You sculpted the Mosasaurus model. What story or ideas informed the sculpture, and what were the main challenges, highlights, or details you would like people to notice?
- Older reconstructions often emphasized a lizard-like reptilian silhouette, but more recent interpretations tend to use a streamlined shape better suited to moving through water. I therefore gave it a smooth, whale-like outline. To keep the sculpting interesting, however, I added scales and wrinkles across the body.
- The Mosasaurus Vinyl Model Premium Edition combines yellow and green for an active, energetic look. What image or concept inspired this choice?
- Although its body shape is whale-like, Mosasaurus was still a marine lizard, so I used reptile-inspired colors.
