Dinosaur Plushie That's Not Just "Cute"
This is an Ankylosaurus plushie that combines a cute, stylized form with compressed features such as spikes all over its body and a hammer-shaped tail. This "cute dinosaur" can be enjoyed by both children and adults alike.
AnkylosaurusAnkylosaurus
Order: Ornithischia / Suborder: Ankylosauria / Family: Ankylosauridae
Size: 11 meters in length
Period: Late Cretaceous
The largest and most representative of the armored dinosaurs. Its entire back, from neck to tail, was covered with numerous bone plates and spikes. Its skull was also thick and sturdy, with triangular horns protruding from the back of its head. The tip of its tail had a hard, hammer-like bone, thought to be for defense against carnivorous dinosaur attacks. The teeth of ankylosaurs were very small and weak, so it is believed they swallowed soft leaves whole and absorbed them in their bodies.
Interview with Supervisor Hirokazu Tokugawa
- Five new types of dinosaurs and ancient creatures have been added to the "Stuffed Model" plushie series by Favorite. First, please tell us your impression of the finished new series as a whole.
- Each of these five new types had different features that I wanted to express as plushies, so the design work presented a different kind of challenge compared to the first five types. Also, this time, two ancient creatures other than dinosaurs, Mosasaurus and Pteranodon, have been added. Therefore, when all 10 types, including the first five, are displayed together, I believe the overall design range of the models has expanded, allowing for a better expression of "Favorite's" unique style.
- Mr. Tokugawa, as before, we asked you to supervise everything from the creation of the base illustrations to the expression of the dinosaurs' and ancient creatures' characteristics. Could you please share some "particular points ofこだわり" or "highlights" for each dinosaur?
- I thought it would be difficult to turn it into a plushie because it has many parts like spikes, but I was surprised that my design was almost exactly replicated in the initial prototype. Perhaps the sensibility of the production staff and my design were a good match.
- Regarding the coloring, as with the previous work, it is unified with calm color schemes that naturally blend into everyday spaces. Please tell us if there were any images or motifs you had in mind when considering the colors for each dinosaur.
- To emphasize the spikes all over its body, which are characteristic of this dinosaur, I wanted to make the spikes brown, so I made the main body color a lighter gray to match.
- Finally, please give a message to those who will pick up this Stuffed Model.
- I thought that having experience from the first product development would make the second one smoother, but it turned out to be unexpectedly difficult. I rediscovered the wide variety of dinosaur and ancient creature forms and the difficulty of designing them as plushies. Nevertheless, it was still an enjoyable process, just like the previous time. I would be very happy if you find your favorite among these five new types.
