TriceratopsTriceratops
Classification: Ornithischia/Ceratopsia/Ceratopsidae
Size: Total length 7–9 meters
Period: Late Cretaceous
One of the largest ceratopsian dinosaurs, Triceratops lived during the Late Cretaceous and is highly recognizable alongside Tyrannosaurus. It is characterized by three long horns on its nose and above its eyes, from which its name is derived. Various theories have been proposed about the functions of these horns and the frill extending from the back of the head over the neck, including intimidation and defense against predators, as well as territorial competition and courtship between members of the same species.
Interview with Supervisor Hirokazu Tokugawa
- Dinosaurs from Favorite’s Stuffed Model plush series are now available as approximately 15 cm mascots in the Dinosaur Stuffed Model Mini Mascot line. To begin, could you share your overall impression of the series?
- From the beginning, I thought it would be great to create dinosaur plush toys that people could enjoy more closely by attaching them to bags and other belongings. I’m very pleased that this idea has become a reality.
- For the Mini Mascots, we tried to retain as many of the dinosaurs’ key features as possible while reducing them to a smaller size. Some aspects may look different at this scale. What differences do you notice compared with the regular-size products?
- The smaller size places greater constraints on the design than the regular products. We therefore needed to emphasize each dinosaur’s defining features and reconsider the fabric and pile length to achieve that. I think we created cute designs that preserve each species’ character while offering something different from the regular-size models.
- Finally, do you have a message for people who pick up a Mini Mascot?
- Many people who attend my dinosaur workshops and talks, or visit dinosaur museums, attach dinosaur merchandise to their bags and backpacks. I would be delighted if these Mini Mascots became another accessory people enjoy wearing when attending dinosaur events.
