The underdog dinosaur's incredible journey to becoming "king"
The name Tyrannosaurus often conjures images of the "strongest dinosaur" or the "king of dinosaurs." However, early members of the Tyrannosaurus family were quite small, roughly the height of a human or slightly taller. As a result, they were far from "the strongest," living in fear of other large carnivorous dinosaurs. Most of their fossils have been found across a wide area of the Northern Hemisphere, including North America, Asia, and Europe. Tyrannosaurus family fossils have also been discovered throughout Japan, and in fact, a fossilized tooth from its premaxilla was found in the Tamba region in 2009.
This exhibition will introduce dinosaurs from the Tyrannosaurus family found in the Tamba region, while exploring the incredible story of how the Tyrannosaurus family, once "underdogs," rose to become the "kings of dinosaurs."
