Special Exhibition: The Great Dinosaur Exhibition – Exploring Theropod Evolution from "Fukui"

"A family of carnivores"
Exploring their unconventional evolution
The Fukui Prefectural Dinosaur Museum is counted among the world's three greatest dinosaur museums, attracting dinosaur enthusiasts from across the country. After its renewal in 2023, it garnered even more attention, and the special exhibition "Theropods 2025," commemorating its 25th anniversary, became a major topic, drawing over 360,000 visitors, the highest number ever. This exhibition is based on that display, organized with the full cooperation of the Fukui Prefectural Dinosaur Museum. The theme is theropods, one of the most popular groups of dinosaurs. It spotlights theropods bearing the "Fukui" name, such as "Fukuiraptor" and "Fukuivenator," as well as the Spinosauridae family, still shrouded in much mystery, tracing their evolutionary lineages with the latest research findings. Furthermore, it delves into the history and significance of how over 35 years of excavation in Fukui has advanced global dinosaur research. The stories etched in fossils, and the learning and excitement they generate—an intellectual adventure awaits all those captivated by dinosaurs.
