Black Bass
Classification: Order Perciformes/Family Centrarchidae/Genus Micropterus
Size: Approx. 30-70cm in length
Habitat: Japan, North America, Oceania, Northern Europe, etc.
"Black bass" is the general name for the 8 species (11 subspecies) of fish belonging to the genus Micropterus, but it often refers primarily to the largemouth bass (Micropterus salmoides). It has a large mouth, with the posterior end of the upper jaw extending beyond the vertical line of the posterior end of the eye. The body is tall dorsoventrally and narrow laterally, with a laterally compressed shape. The back and sides are grayish-green, and brown spots are arranged along the sides. Due to its aggressive nature and significant negative impact on ecosystems, it has been designated as a specific alien species.
