Its total length can exceed 1m, and it is characterized by a long, slender body and a large mouth. It has a simple, dark body color with no prominent patterns, which gives it a refined and dignified appearance. It is a "Shusse-uo" (fish whose name changes as it grows), and in the Kanto region, it is called Seigo, Fukko, and Suzuki depending on its size.
