"Paint the Dinosaur" 16th Painting Contest Results Announcement
Thank you for your many Instagram posts for the 16th "Paint the Dinosaur" contest, where participants imagined a world of dinosaurs and created their own unique styles.
Since this was the first time the contest was held on Instagram, we saw a wider range of participants compared to previous years, as well as many parent-child entries, likely due to increased time spent at home.
Now, let's announce the winning entries selected by the Favorite staff from the many submissions!

The other day, watching my son painting made me want to try it myself 🙄🎨
So I painted one too!
The theme is "Dressed up for a party 🎉"
I wanted to make Brachio look like he jumped out of a picture book ✨
At first, I painted the outfit in beige tones, but then I thought gray would suit him better!
And then...
I tried painting a bow tie, but maybe a real ribbon would be cuter 🎀
And so on...
Once I started focusing on details, I couldn't stop 🤣💦
I repainted it many times, trying different things 💫
And there are two key points 🌟🌟
My son also loves insects, so I wanted to add an insect... 🤔
The first thing that came to mind was a Meganeura!
I attached it to his bottom 🍑
The other point is the leaves on his feet 🍃 from when he was walking.
It truly made me feel like #anadultchild!
It was so much fun, I want to paint with my son again ✨

This captivating piece was selected for the Grand Prize. It's a superb work that combines the realism of a tuxedo-clad Brachiosaurus with the unique charm of ribbons and jacket patterns.

My 3-year-old daughter enjoyed painting
Children's sensibility is amazing
Staff Comment
These dinosaurs are vividly colored with many hues, reflecting a child's artistic freedom. There's a strong sense of unity among the individual dinosaurs and the overall composition, and the patterns appear to be thoughtfully painted.

My 4-year-old son diligently painted his beloved Spinosaurus all by himself.
(A Paint the Dinosaur series model my husband bought for him at the National Museum of Nature and Science.)
He seemed to enjoy it so much that he's been asking for a Tyrannosaurus since this morning, so I'm off on a quest to find one.
My 4-year-old boy passionately explained how he made a moss-like green for the base color, and then added various colors to its body to represent all the different fish it eats, LOL.
Staff Comment
This piece stands out for its profound concept: the colors of the fish the dinosaur ate appear on its body. The overlapping blue and green patterns on its surface create a cosmic world.

I tried painting this to enter the Paint the Dinosaur contest (^ω^)
I've had this figure for years, but I was hesitant to paint it for fear of messing it up, so this was a good opportunity.
I tried hard with masking and such to make it colorful and cute with pastel colors △, giving it a pop finish.
I even hypothesized that the color of the plate itself might have been pink...
It was fun, so I want to try painting again with realistic styles and various other patterns.

This Stegosaurus, with its soft colors, is incredibly cute. The body patterns, reminiscent of the triangular bone plates on its back, create an 80s-inspired design that serves as a nice accent.

Incorporating the memory of tie-dyeing with family at home into an Ankylosaurus.
Like my son's Brachiosaurus, it glows in the dark.
The armor's robustness is clearly distinguished even in darkness through the painting.
There are new discoveries you wouldn't notice in an encyclopedia, as you paint while observing things like how the spikes are arranged around the face and the texture of the flanks.

This work masterfully blends an Ankylosaurus with tie-dye, and it even glows in the dark. The fantastical patterns and colors are beautiful, giving it a unique presence.

A camouflage-patterned Triceratops!
I worked hard to make each camouflage pattern into a dinosaur silhouette (Stegosaurus, Pteranodon, Brachiosaurus) 😁
(Though I'm not much of an artist... haha)
Staff Comment
At first glance, it looks like a regular camouflage pattern, but in fact, each individual pattern is a dinosaur silhouette, which is a fun color choice. It pairs well with camouflage and suits the sturdy Triceratops.

With a bold painting style typical of children, the resulting mottled pattern creates a simple yet tastefully profound work.

"Fire Spinosaurus"
This is my second son's original Spinosaurus, whose fan-like sail on its back is ablaze with fire.
My 4-year-old second son painted this in the car on the way back from a 6-hour drive from Saitama to the Fukui Dinosaur Museum, saying he "couldn't wait to get home."
According to my second son, it's a very strong Spinosaurus. He enjoyed painting it despite being on the move in the car.
Staff Comment
This piece portrays a Spinosaurus with its dorsal sail engulfed in flames, making it appear formidable. The bold and unconstrained concept is excellent.
