■ Highlights
Dinosaurs were creatures that thrived on Earth for approximately 164 million years. Even today, various new discoveries and research continue to accumulate, but their appearance remains full of mystery, continuously captivating us. Among them, the T.rex, or Tyrannosaurus, is the most popular dinosaur not only among dinosaur fans but also among researchers.
This exhibition focuses on the relatives of Tyrannosaurus, explaining the origin and evolution of tyrannosaurs based on valuable specimens and incorporating the latest research findings. In particular, it introduces a full-body skeletal reconstruction of a 12-meter Tyrannosaurus, along with "Jane," a young Tyrannosaurus believed to be its subadult. Representative dinosaurs from each era will also be exhibited, tracing their evolutionary history and approaching the mystery of the "gigantism of tyrannosaurs" that occurred at the end of the Cretaceous period.
Furthermore, recent research has revealed that Tyrannosaurus actually lived in Iwate during the Cretaceous period. The exhibition will also display a replica of a tyrannosaur tooth fossil found in Kuji City, "Moshiryu," Japan's first dinosaur fossil discovered in Iwaizumi Town in 1978, and fossils of marine reptiles such as plesiosaurs and mosasaurs that lived in the seas of Iwate during the same era as the dinosaurs.
