【Bigfin Reef Squid】
Bigfin Reef Squid
Classification: Order Teuthida / Family Loliginidae / Genus Sepioteuthis
Size: Mantle length approx. 30-50 cm
Habitat: Temperate waters of the Western Pacific west of Hawaii to the Indian Ocean
Their mantle is wide and rounded, with semicircular fins along its edge. They swim beautifully by undulating these fins. They have excellent eyesight and can see almost all directions except directly behind them. Written in Kanji as "障泥烏賊" (Aoriika), they are called "Aoriika" because their fins resemble the "aori," which is the mudguard part of horse tack. They are a high-end species that are delicious to eat, highly valued in the market, and are known as the "King of Squid."
