\The Conqueror of South America in the Late Cretaceous Period/
This large carnivorous dinosaur inhabited the South American continent during the Late Cretaceous period and is a relatively new dinosaur, with its first fossil discovered in 1993. Its skull alone measured 1.8m, making it larger than Tyrannosaurus, but its overall shape was slender, and its jaw strength is believed to have been insufficient to crush bones. The discovery of multiple fossilized individuals together suggests that they hunted in packs, and large sauropods like Argentinosaurus may have been their prey.
Giganotosaurus
Classification: Saurischia / Theropoda / Carcharodontosauridae
Size: 12-14 meters in length
Period: Late Cretaceous

Giganotosaurus, the ruler of South America, and Tyrannosaurus, the king of North America
We've placed it alongside "Tyrannosaurus, the King of North America," another large carnivorous dinosaur with a very similar appearance.

The large, sharp skull of the Giganotosaurus is emphasized when viewed alongside the Tyrannosaurus.

The Giganotosaurus Soft Model is sculpted with the image of intimidating prey or enemies in front of it, so you can enjoy imagining a hunting scene or displaying a collection of carnivorous dinosaurs.

The coloring is based on a subdued dark red, conveying a sense of imposing strength. The raised parts of the head are accented with a touch of color.

Under the masterful hands of Japan's leading dinosaur sculptor, Mr. Kazunari Araki, this authentic Giganotosaurus was born, meticulously recreating not only its form but also as many of its biological characteristics as possible.

Interview with Supervisor Kazunari Araki
--Giganotosaurus, the largest carnivorous dinosaur of South America, has joined the soft model lineup. What are your impressions of Giganotosaurus?
For dinosaur fans of my generation, Giganotosaurus is a "new" dinosaur, as I only learned about it after I was well into adulthood. It was kind of an image of a representative carnivorous dinosaur against the backdrop of sauropods, which were thought to have gone extinct in South America during the Jurassic period, still existing in the Cretaceous in unusual forms like Saltasaurus and Amargasaurus. For younger dinosaur fans, it's already a familiar dinosaur, so I think there are many Giganotosaurus fans out there.
--When sculpting the Giganotosaurus soft model, what were the difficult points or the particular details you want people to notice?
Since it's a large carnivorous dinosaur, at first glance it looks very similar to Tyrannosaurus, but Giganotosaurus and other South American carnivorous dinosaurs like Carcharodontosaurus have distinctive serrated teeth. The shape of the skull is also large and sharp, which is cool, so I tried to bring out those features.
--What was the image behind the posing and the base part of the sculpture?
I didn't make the pose too eccentric, but I made the palms face forward, as if intimidating prey or an enemy in front of it. The base is always the same: a sandy ground with scattered rocks. Sorry for the one-pattern design (laughs).
--Regarding the overall coloring of the Giganotosaurus Soft Model, were there any specific aspects you focused on?
First, as always, it's a combination of colors and patterns that aren't too repetitive within the series. This time, the Giganotosaurus has distinctive features in the shape of its skull, particularly the size of the antorbital fenestra and the raised parts, so I added a touch of color to those areas as an accent.
--Finally, please provide a comment about the Giganotosaurus Soft Model.
It's a large carnivorous dinosaur from South America. A dream showdown with Tyrannosaurus, the king of North America, would be great. It would be nice to add some South American herbivorous dinosaurs to the lineup as well. Also, there's a rumor that it will appear in the latest Jurassic World movie, so its popularity might grow even more.
